Gheorghe Popescu as born on the 9th of October in 1967 in Calafat, Craiova County and played as a midfielder. He was capped 115 ties for the national team of Romania and scored 16 goals. Along with the Golden Generation he participated at the European Championships 1996 and 2000 and the World Cups 1990, 1994 and 1998.

He won the European Super Cup, the UEFA Cup, The Cup Winners’ Cup, the Dutch Super Cup and Championship, the Turkish Championship 4 times, the Spanish Cup and the Romanian Championship.
